TDC

(CPSE: TDC)

Denmark

The Danish telecom giant got its start in one of Europe's most wired and competitive markets. Now it's hoping to put that experience to use as it expands internationally. TDC is still a fairly small player, with 15.5 million mobile customers as of May, 2006, an increase of more than 14% from the previous year. But the company hopes to bolster those numbers through investments in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. TDC is one of two license holders in Oman's soon-to-be-liberalized telecommunications market thanks to Nawras, a joint venture it formed with Quatar's national telco Qtel. Since launching in March, 2006, Nawras has snatched a 20% share of the Omani mobile market, adding over 300,000 new subscribers. TDC also has stakes in cell-phone players in Eastern Europe, including Poland, Hungary, and Lithuania. At the same time, TDC is capitalizing on an international partnership with Britain's easyGroup that allows it to launch mobile telephony services under the Easymobile brand in 12 European countries. So far, TDC has launched mobile telephony in Britain and Germany.
